 Washington, DC (Info Türk) - Plus de 1000 Turcs, Chypriotes Turcs, Turcs des Balkans, Turcs de Crimée, Juifs Sépharades, Turcomans d’Irak et Azérbaïdjanais d’Amérique venus de New-York, Washington D.C., Philadélphie, Baltimore, Chicagi et d’autres villes ont manifesté dans le calme devant la Maison-Blanche Dimanche 24 avril, à la mémoire des victimes de la révolte arménienne (1885-1919), des allégations de "génocide arménien" (1915) du gouvernement Arménien et du terrorisme Arménien (1974-ajourd’hui). La manifestation a debuté par une minute de silence à la mémoire des victimes des massacres commis par les Arméniens, suivi des hymnes nationaux turc et américain. De nombreux orateurs (dont des universitaires, des politiques et des représentants des communautés Turque, Azérie, Turcomane et Turkmène) ont pris la parole pour condamner les crimes que les communautés arméniennes nient encore aujourd’hui.
Selon les autorités locales, la Fédération de Jeunesse Arménienne, la branche jeunesse du Comité National Arménien d’Amérique (Armenian National Committee of America - ANCA), un groupe d’extrême droite, ont adressé une lettre aux autorités affirmant qu’ils allaient organiser une contre-manifestation devant la Maison-Blanche et l’Ambassade Arménienne. Le service d’ordre de la manifestation a collaboré avec les autorités locales pour éviter que des éléments extérieurs ne puissent créer de problèmes. Un groupe de jeunes arméniens ont tenté en vain de provoquer le groupe de manifestants Turcs, mais sans effet, la dignité était au rendez-vous et les trois provocateurs ont été rapidement escorté au loin par la police.
Les manifestants ont par la suite marché de Lafayette Square vers l’Ambassade arménienne à Sheridan Circle, transportant des bannières et drapeaux Turcs, Azérbaïdjanais, Turkmènes et Chypriotes Turcs, scandant le slogans "Les archives Turques sont disponibles ! Où sont les archives arméniennes ?", faisant allusion au refus par l’Etat Arménien d’ouvrir ses archives et d’autoriser une étude d’historiens indépendants qui confirmeraient ou infirmeraient ses allégations de génocide. Le même jour le président Bush, dans son discours rappelait qu’un meilleur dialogue et des recherches historiques approfondies étaient nécessaires entre l’Arménie et la Turquie et a demandé à l’Arménie de coopérer avec la Turquie et d’ouvrir ses archives.

TURKISH AMERICAN COMMUNITY PROTEST AGAINST ARMENIAN AGGRESSION AND TERRORISM DRAWS OVER 1,000 AT THE WHITE HOUSE AND THE ARMENIAN EMBASSY
Washington, DC (April 24, 2005) - A crowd of nearly 1000 members of the Turkish, Turkish Cypriot, Balkan Turk, Crimean Turk, Iraqi Turcoman, Sephardic Jewish and Azerbaijani American Communities from New York, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Baltimore, Chicago and other parts of the country peacefully congregated in front of the White House on Sunday, April 24, to remember the victims of the Armenian Revolt (1885-1919), the Armenian allegation of genocide (1915), and Armenian terrorism (1974-Present). The event began with a moment of silence for the victims of the Armenian Revolt and Armenian terrorism, followed by the Turkish and US national anthems, and speeches from scholars as well as representatives of Turkish, Azerbaijani, Turcoman, and Turkmen communities.
According to the authorities, the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF), the youth branch of the ultra-nationalist Armenian National Committee of America, sent a message to the authorities that 250 of their members would counter-demonstrate at the White House and Armenian Embassy. Rally organizers worked closely with the Metropolitan Police Special Operations Division, the US Department of the Interior National Park Police, and the Secret Service to deter any unwelcome disruptions. Three Armenian American provocateurs did show up and attempted to disturb the peaceful observance in front of the White House but were promptly escorted out by the police.
Marching from the Lafayette Square to the Armenian Embassy at Sheridan Circle, the demonstrators carried American, Turkish, Azerbaijani, Turkmen and Turkish Cypriot flags and banners with slogans such as "Turkish Archives Open ! Where Are the Armenian Archives ?" referring to the unwillingness of the Armenian government to open its archives to allow independent scholarly verification of its genocide claims. That same day, President Bush issued a statement urging further research and dialogue, and supporting Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan’s call to Armenia to open its archives.
Despite being the first Turkish American grassroots demonstration of its kind, the event was well attended and disciplined. The three-block long parade of demonstrators was compliant with all instructions from authorities, given in advance of the march. Police vehicles accompanied the rally to insure the safety of the attendees. "The self discipline and calm behavior of all the participants were very impressive. Their conduct was a reflection on the solemn nature of the event. Our gratitude goes to the National Park Police, Washington Metropolitan Police and U.S. Secret Services officers for their expert guidance and input throughout the rally," said Oya Bain, the ATAA Secretary General and one of several Turkish American community leaders organizing the event.
