Turkey has raised its profile as a destination for health tourism. Thousands of patients come to Turkey each year for treatment from countries including the US, Japan, China and Jordan. Cheap prices attract foreign patients for many operations for hearts and tumors, plastic surgery, IVF, gynecology, and dental treatment.
Esat Ozoguz, Marketing Director of the Memorial Hospital explained yesterday that they accept foreign patients in all the branches they provide, saying that patients from abroad choose extensively heart and general surgeries as well as orthopedics. Underlining that health tourism will have important contributions to the country’s economy, Ozoguz said : "We predict that a considerable number of patients from European Union (EU) member countries will flow to Turkey soon. The health infrastructure of the country is in constant development."
Meanwhile, the Director General of the International Hospital Yasar Yildirim expressed that number of foreign patients reached 12,936 between January 2003-November 2004. Experts said that the foreign patients come mainly from EU countries with large Turkish populations.
