ANKARA, Nov 29 (AFP) - Officials from Turkey, the United States and Iraq will meet here Tuesday to discuss security measures for Turkish truck drivers who are increasingly targeted in armed attacks in neighbouring Iraq, diplomats said Monday.
Turkey will be represented at the one-day meeting by its special envoy to Iraq, Osman Korutuk, and Iraq by its undersecretary for bilateral affairs, Hamid al-Bayati, a Turkish diplomat said on condition of anonymity.
Officials from the US embassy in Ankara and US military staff in Iraq will also attend the meeting, a spokesman for the US embassy said.
"This will be an important gathering that will allow the three sides to meet and exchange views," the Turkish diplomat said.
"We of course have some demands," he added. "The United States and Iraq should both take responsibility in providing security for the drivers."
It was not known whether there would be a statement after the meeting.
Turkey says more than 60 of its nationals have been killed in neighbouring Iraq in frequent attacks by kidnappers and gunmen.
